Congleton Link Road: Traffic Management Update

Please note below, an update on the road closures/diversions for your information.

TEMPORARY TWO LANE CARRIAGEWAY – Chelford Road, Congleton, between Black Firs Lane and Back Lane

To enable the construction of the Chelford Road overbridge and divert existing services.

Start Date – 3rd June 2019

For the duration of the Chelford Road overbridge


  • To facilitate the construction of the Chelford Road overbridge, a new two-lane temporary carriageway will be constructed adjacent to Chelford Road.
  • Traffic will be switched to the new carriageway late June 2019.
    The switching of traffic to the temporary carriageway is essential to allow the construction of the new Chelford Road overbridge and divert existing services.

ROAD CLOSURE  – Sandy Lane, Congleton, between A54 Holmes Chapel Road and A534 Sandbach Road

The closure will enable us to access the adjacent fields to carry out earthworks, divert drainage and construct two new roundabouts. Sandy Lane will be closed for an initial period of 9 months.

Start Date – 28th May 2019

Planned Completion – Late February 2020

TEMPORARY CARRIAGEWAY & TRAFFIC LIGHTS – Giantswood Lane, Congleton, between Westlow Mere and Smithy Lane

In order to facilitate construction of the Giantswood Lane overbridge, traffic has been diverted onto a newly constructed carriageway. A 10 mile per hour speed restriction will be imposed 24 hours a day.

Started – 1st May 2019

For the duration of the Giantswood Lane overbridge construction

ROAD CLOSURE  – Back Lane, Congleton, between Radnor Hall Farm and Radnor Park Trading Estate 

We will be carrying out road improvements along this stretch of Back Lane as part of the overall scheme.

Started – 28th January 2019

Planned Completion – 31 July 2019
